Giving You Your Time Back!

Small Business Goals and Resolutions

Small Business Resolutions Yes, it’s only mid January and I’ve already broken one of my New Year’s resolutions. I had promised myself that I would be much more consistent in writing my blog posts. You see how well this has started out. I don’t necessarily believe in making New Year’s resolutions because, to me, it just sounds like I’m setting myself up for failure. Instead, I think we should call them “Kick Ass Goals for the New Year”. Why not? It has a certain ring to it.

There are  many goals that you can set for your small business this up coming year, but I think we need to put our focus on one or two and really strive to make those come to fruition. It’s fine to have more than a couple, but if you’re like me, you may start to spread yourself too thin and then nothing gets accomplished! Sit down and make a list of what you want  more of for your small business this year. It can be as long or short as you like. Once you do that, focus on the one or two that will really take your company to the next level and make these your definite “Kick Ass Goals for the New Year”!

For Clerical Essentials, my main focus this year will be on:

  1. Gaining new clients – Obviously everyone would like new clientele, but I would like to not only gain new clients, but also a more diversified group of clients. While I love my retainer clients, and want to see more of those, I’d love to expand to having more per-project clients. I’d like to mix it up a little.
  2. Network more actively – Okay, this is a tough one for me. While my friends and family will be the first to tell you that I never lack for anything to say (and I’m usually pretty blunt about it), I am a horrible networker both online and off. For me, it just seems so time consuming and I find myself grasping for things to say. I understand that networking is about making connections, and not so much about tap dancing while holding up a flashing sign with your company logo on it, it’s just not something I do well and I’ve promised myself that I am really going to work on that this year.

Do you have any “Kick Ass Goals for the New Year”? If so, what are they? How do you plan on implementing them?
